Back when you worked regularly with Marvel, how much governance did Editorial provide over what a writer could do with "community property" in the Marvel Universe? I'm thinking of things like the Savage Land, SHIELD and AIM, etc.
This question is prompted by revisiting a Claremont X-Men story that restored the Savage Land to vitality after Terminus ravaged the ecosystem in one of Roger Stern's Avengers tales. (No griping implied, here -- just curious if Editorial coordinated these kinds of things, or if they were left freely to the creators.)
Optional follow-up: any situations where you wanted to do a story with a shared asset, but were waved off? No details necessary, if you'd prefer to keep them to yourself, of course.
Thanks!

Ha! Fair enough -- and perhaps speaks volumes!
Thanks, all the same.

Not to undercut JB or anyone else here in the Forum...
This is probably a reflection of how large the Marvel Corporation has become. Back when Marvel first started out, Stan was everywhere and had a handle on keeping things like the Savage Land straight.
Even Stan and the bulletin had made their share of errors over the years though, like in Avengers (I think issue 35) where Cap's shield was disintigrated by laser beams (which should not have happened).
Size makes a difference.

Size makes a difference.•• With editorial offices lined up next to each other? With no one having to go more than a hundred feet to check some detail? Let's not make excuses for unprofessionalism.

You could argue it’s even easier now, as everyone is only an email away!

Unfortunately, from personal experience I can tell you changes are often made maliciously, intended as deliberate interference with another writer’s story. Factor that into the equation and no amount of easy communication can help.

I guess it really shouldn't be any different than any other workplace. There will always be those vindictive, spiteful people in our midst.

Back in the 70s I heard that Steves Englehart and Gerber both wanted to use Yellowjacket in their respective team books (Avengers and Defenders). Englehart "won" probably because Hank was an Avenger. For me it would have win either way as I liked both teams and Yellowjacker.

I loved just about everything Roger Stern did, but destroying the Savage Land in one and a half issues of AVENGERS seemed very strange to me.
