George Perez is really good at giving characters distinctive faces.

"But all my faces look the same!!!"• • • • Ah yeah JB, I can't tell one apart of another either.
It was always a little treat to see your art in the corner box.

From a marketing stand point-- I actually spent money (as a kid!) on comics that had those Byrne heads -- hoping they indicated something inside. •• Now I feel really guilty.

I used corner heads to tell me who the active team members were in a comic. It's why a part of me never felt that Phoenix was a full member of the X-Men.
And that's why I felt really gratified to see you add Havok and Lorna to the corner box for XM:HY!

Your mutant ability to touch on a sore point remains undiminished, Vinny! However, I shall pass on!About 90% of those heads were “corner of the desk” jobs, where I’d wander into Marvel and Mark or Howard would drag me into their office and set me to work drawing them, as well as some of the smaller figures.

Vinny, you remind me of an issue with the corner heads about being a spoiler. I remember purchasing X-Men 2099* and seeing the characters in the corner box - and then seeing another mutant in the first part of the story. And of course, that character got killed.
The same thing happened with the good X-Men cartoon on Fox. I watched the intro and loved it - but I noticed that of those characters, there was no Morph. And sure enough, Morph was killed in the first episode. There has to be a better way to not telegraph spoilers.
*Yeah, I was the one.

A noble X-Men tradition dating back to the third/last appearance of Thunderbird...

You beat me to it Dave!
Actually I thought there was trickeration going on. No Thunderbird head, but also no Cyclops on the cover. Wouldn't that have been a twist!
