Hear, hear. Jean chaining a cosmic entity with sheer will is as bad-ass as it gets.

Now, I have to back and read from the beginning cuz I don't remember the "deep space encounter". Darn it, life is hard.

This page is fantastic!! I love that Jean sends a psionic blast, imprinting her
personality onto the Phoenix force - it reinstates an element that never should
have been removed from the original published story in FF. Jean makes a last
gasp effort to have an impact on a dire situation - she can't stop Phoenix, but
she can mitigate it. I think this restores Jean's heroism - she took a deliberate
action that ultimately resulted in saving the X-Men on the Moon. The
published version in FF has Jean as a kind of bystander - ultimately her
personality is cited as why, but it relies on Jean being so inherently good that
she ultimately saved the day, which is a kind of squishy heroism. This is a
deliberate action, and with A LOT less talking! Dialogue here is perfect -
"You're so keen to be me? Then be me!"

Jean's face is on point in the second panel. It reminds
me of a young Julia Roberts. I also like the way the
field slowly envelops her.

Wonderfully done.  Thank you for doing this.  I'm enjoying this so much more than the original 'reviving' of Jean.  It makes more sense with the imprinting and Phoenix being a pure destructive force - I hate villains who are pure evil normally but this is a universal force, not a human, so it works.  Need to read 'Hidden Years' - I think I have it in a collection somewhere (I buy stuff then put it away until I have time but as a single parent of 4 time is a rare thing).

Revisiting the published story via the trade hardback, JB's original page that
was cut is included, compliments of Brian Peck, who has the page in his
collection:

I think is better than what was published, so I am glad this has been
incorporated into ELSEWHEN.

Art Collector Supreme and fellow forum member Brian Peck has lots of
jealousy inducing JB art, as well as art from many talented artist. Check out

The crazy thing is how much this story allows the original, horrible punishment for Jean Grey to stand and yet be set aside.

It feels like it wouldn't be crazy to think this suggestion from Mr. Busiak might have bubbled up anyway and become part of the story if Shooter hadn't insisted on throwing this original "Fate of the Phoenix" ending/timeline out and if JB had stayed around longer on UXM the first time. I mean, a million tumblers would have had to go "the other way", but this particular story idea fits well with where everything was originally headed.

Nice to see Jean get her heroic moment restored.  Even cooler that JB was able to add Jean's encounter with the Phoenix entity from Hidden Years into the conversation.  A nice way to tie everything together.

I agree. The version presented in ELSEWHEN is better and feels more organic than the one shown above. Although the concept is the same, what JB has done in this series gives us a more satisfactory telling of "what really happened."

Yes, XHY afforded me an opportunity to backstop the revised Phoenix Saga with some extra detail--without Shooter or Chris meddling. Satisfying!

Wow!  I got the biggest laugh out of today's page.  I was wondering how Ashley and her mom would get back into the story with everything going on.
