There's always (almost) an edge for characters who can strike from a distance, like Sue. In the X-Men, that ability is represented by Scott and Jean (if we don't count Xavier), with Jean having an advantage since she can mess with people's heads.

JB,

Would Ororo fall into this category?

••

Yes, of course. Don't know why I didn't think of her.

Jean's telepathy still gives her an advantage tho, I think.

Looks as though the Shi'Ar have ways to recover Lilandra even so. As noted above, this will make things very interesting if she can be brought back among the living. The survivors of her homeworld will demand justice--if not vengeance.

"The persistence of the soul, Cyclops."

I like that. Perfect way to end the page :-)

"Soul" of course being a metaphor. Don't want to have to surrender my Atheist card!

The first panel of today's page is absolute perfection.

And that last one... Poor Oracle!

Yeah, hearing about the persistence of the soul from a cyborg who has suffered so much... that really hits ya in the gut.

My goodness! You can tell a whole story with the character's eyes.

I am in awe.

That final panel of Oracle is eerie... and a little horrible. Encountering her in battle, the focus tends to be more on the action. This more contemplative panel really puts the focus on what has happened to her. The split in the face is fascinating to look at, but unnerving and the frazzled remnants of the hair on that side are tinged with a little element of horror for me.

I cannot imagine Oracle's story being told more succinctly yet completely in one panel as you created, Mr. Byrne. Never doubt your mastery.

And - maybe only to me - the idea of a mentalist, pretty much the ultimate long range warrior, suddenly becoming a cyborg, who is a close in melee fighter, makes a very interesting character, I think. I cannot think of too many "half and half" heroes of this nature - Deathlok and Tharok, maybe (so I guess we have to spell  her name as Orakle from now on...) but they're not so defined as Oracle. I'd be interested in her restoration (not physical), as well as the rest of the IG - but then, I've been a sucker for the Legion for a LONG time.

It intrigues me, Mr. Byrne, that you think Jean, Ororo, and Scott are the long distance warriors of the X-Men. With no disagreement, I also consider Banshee, Havok, Iceman, Polaris, and Nightcrawler as ranged attackers. I'm personally fond of Sean Cassidy - but he is surely not as powerful as Cyclops and Marvel Girl. And of all the ranged attackers, his limitation is obvious and most common.

I miss Banshee. I hope that someday he heals and can return to being an ANAO X-Man. I have to suspect that your handling of him would be nothing less than masterful.

I'll give you a "maybe" on Havok, tho his power is not finely focused. But Nightcrawler? If anything he is the opposite of a long range attacker. He might start at a distance, but he has to move in close for the "consummation".

Iceman's power is a lot like hitting somebody with a long stick. Fine, if they don't see it coming. Polaris falls under the same heading as Havok.

Banshee's power diminishes over distance.

I don't want to make any guesses about the future, but would like to see more of Banshee as well.
