Apparently Pietro and Wanda were kidnapped and experimented on by the High Evolutionary, which is how they got their powers. Django Maximoff's sister was their biological mother. And apparently there are warlocks and witches in their bloodline. *Groan* I don't believe they've revealed the identity of their father yet.

It's not Django? How could the current "edgy" Marvel miss that one?

Here's a character

Here's a new writer
They want to add something to the character, make their
mark.

Is it add, or is it overwrite?

What writers fail to understand (the bad ones anyway), is
that add builds on, enhances what has gone before,
overwrite means the next writer will do to you exactly
what you have done to everyone who came before you - and
you deserve it.

And overwrite very rarely is actually better than what
has come before.

For a time, it seemed that Marvel was going to let Fox
have the X-Men and the "Mutants," so Marvel was doing
everything to make the mutants they still had, like
Wanda and their Pietro, not be mutants and not be
related to Magneto.

Let's see if the new "WandaVision" show and what comes
next reestablishes the link to Magneto and brings the X-
Men into the MCU proper.

The only reason why Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are no longer mutants or Magneto's biological kids is because of corporate driven "tail wagging the dog" synergy with the movies and TV series. If Disney/Marvel had the movie rights to the X-Men at the time that they introduced Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in Avengers:Age Of Ultron, they would not have been retconned into not being mutants or changed into not being Magneto's kids. The comic book publishing jumping through hoops and trying to force a square peg into a round hole in order to make the comics resemble the films is one of the major negative consequences of the movie and TV series being successful.

It's one of the reasons I'm enjoying Wandavision so much.  The two characters are in their own little bubble, with not much of the greater Marvel movie stuff bogging them down, for now.   Except for a few easily shrugged off exceptions, like Pietro being dead, these are the characters from the books.  Too bad it won't last long.

 QUOTE:
"Polaris has been retconned as Magneto's daughter"

Wouldn't that mean that she's not actually a mutant?

When she was first introduced she was considered a mutant despite being thought of as Magneto's daughter, and now Marvel goes with the "mutant gene" theory.

Maybe I missed a step, but wouldn't being Magento's daughter ESPECIALLY make her a mutant?

Mutants are DIFFERENT from their parents. If a mutation breeds true, it's a new species.
