He can fling something the same mass as himself far into the sky, but he cannot drag himself by flinging an object. When he flings his hammer, he imparts a force on it, which accelerates the hammer. Newtons' third law tells us an equal and opposite force is exerted on Thor's body when he does this. If he holds on to the hammer, he goes nowhere. Look at hammer throwers in the Olympics at the point of release. They are not pulled forward at release. They are going backward.

Peter, forgive me. I can't help myself.

When Thor is accelerating the hammer he could be pushing against the ground. Once it has momentum, it might be enough to pull him. It would be like throwing a rock with a rope attaching you-to-it.

He just couldn't twirl it, and then launch himself.   Either way, it wouldn't be graceful.

Why am I writing this? :)

JB,
How far ahead have you been plotting this series?

Wow! That is amazing. Do you keep it all in your head? Have you written it down somewhere?

Looking at that commission, I see that Angel's sword is different. The one in Elsewhen is even more cruel looking. No hilt, just all jagged energy badness. I like it.

It'll be fun seeing the differences between the 'real' X-Men and the M-Men.  Should be a fun series.  I love Nightcrawler having a fuzzy/hairy body (you can see it). Too often he is drawn as smooth skin which makes no sense given his 'fuzzy elf' nickname.  I'm guessing there is an editorial directive that body hair (or fuzz) is a no-go for some reason as it seems epidemic in comics - every guy gets a fully body wax weekly or something.

Unfamiliar with Wolverine?

Anyway, I was not aware of any anti-hair policy.

Even Wolverine is often drawn with little to no body hair - I didn't mean you Mr. Byrne but many other artists in comics.
