Just a quick post to note that I was offered a cover, as part of the upcoming celebrations at DC, and I declined (courteously).

I mention it by way of a feeble attempt at stemming the internet rumor tsunami that will surge up when the Anniversary comes and goes and I have no presence in it. You know the one. "Byrne wanted to work on Superman for the Anniversary but DC wouldn't let him."

(That's a multi-purpose rumor, btw, casting me as the old has-been scratching around for work, and simultaneously casting DC as the "bad guys" for not offering me any.)

You have my full support, JB. As an admirer of your work and as a reader.

Glad that they offered you something but bummer you had to turn it down at this time. It would have been nice to see your Superman back on the stands.

That's too bad. I'd like to see that cover. I bet you even pictured it in your mind JB.

Your existing contributions to Superman are good enough for me. It was a nice gesture on thier behalf I suppose. I can't ever see you "Scratching around for work"

Respect your decision, but kinda sad not to see you part of the big man's celebrations. We've always got the commissions though!

I wonder if DC was asking for Byrne's version/model of the character for that cover?

=======
DC has been weird about Superman since the outfit change. The
comics show the New52 outfit as does some of the licensed material.
But there's still tons of licensed material that promotes the classic look
of the character. I even find it humorous that, of the eight variant
covers for the new Superman book coming, all but two show
Superman in his classic duds.

The current DC doesn't deserve JB.

Neal Adams, Jerry Ordway, Dan Jurgens, Brett Booth, Dave Johnson, Lee Bermejo, Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez and Bruce Timm have all done 75th Anniversary variant covers for the first issue SUPERMAN UNCHAINED.
