Truthfully, I like that Northstar was arrogant and moody ie. a bitch. It makes him much more real than the gay archetype we usually see played out; that of the noble, sexless friend or sexless minstrel. Northstar (with the exception of his powers) reminds me more of a believable type of gay guy than either of the previous examples. And I am definitely rereading JB's AF run again this weekend.

When I originally read AF when it came out I completely missed the overtones about Northstar. I really just saw him acting in a very very similar way to Quicksilver.
I wonder if I go back and read a bunch of old Quicksilver appearances could I "find" hints that he had similar procilvities? Could it be that HE wanted the Vision to himself.
I doubt that there is anything that is supposed to support that, but the reader can, if they so choose, superimpose ideas to "find" support for anything that they want.

Yeah, during the Giffen/Bierbaum days.
(And while we're talking about gay Legionnaires, apparently the post Zero Hour incarnation of Invisible Kid was going to turn out to be gay, but the writers left the book before they got around to it. The following writers didn't go that route and that whole incarnation has been wiped from continuity anyway.)

change in order to attract Element Lad, but I don't think that quite counts.

Moondragon was revealed to be a lesbian in Captain Marvel. And Renee Montoya was also outed in Gotham Central (which kinda annoyed me, since that in a title with Maggie Sawyer in it seemed to be saying that you can't be a tough woman cop without being lesbian.) Likewise at least a few of the Amazons are lesbians, but not Wonder Woman.
As for characters who could be outed without much problem, either Hercules or Gilgamesh if we go by the myths. Theoretically Odin and Loki as well, depending on your interpretation.

Okay, I have no problem with positive gay role model characters in comics,
but in a way aren't we bordering the territory of "7. You wonder about the
sex lives of the characters"?

Well, "romance" is a part of fiction, homosexual or otherwise. It's when you start getting a little too interested in what happens behind closed doors that the line starts to be crossed.
(Personally, I'd tweak the rule a bit and add "and expect to see it addressed in the comics themselves." It's one thing to be curious about it in good fun - "Hey, I wonder if Odin says stuff like 'Woman! Prepare to receive the full majesty of Odin!!!' when he and Frigga get a little frisky?" It's another when you get annoyed with the comics for "discretely withdrawing" all the time.)
