JB: Which means, as previously mentioned, we drifted by 150 without noticing.

Arrgh!
QUESTION: Is the first issue long enough to be an Annual?

QUESTION: Is the first issue long enough to be an Annual?•• In my day, annuals were "double-sized", which Marvel defined as 38 pages, when the monthly books were 22.

X-Men Elsewhen #1 is 38 pages long. I guess that's not an amazing coincidence?
Maybe it's potentially more like serendipity--
This is all going too far, but it leapt to mind in an instant. if at some point (when ByrneRobotics' studio full of assistants has oodles of spare time) there's a possible re-arrangement that starts where you want it to, gets to a significant issue #150 story, and keeps the first issue as an "Annual" or "Giant Size X-Men Elsewhen".
It already feels a bit like Elsewhen launched the way the new X-Men did, with a Giant Size issue that's kind of out on its own, storywise.
All the things I like about issue, as well as the things that bother you about it not really fitting in with the flow of the stories, are qualities those Annuals used to have.
And that story sure fits imaginary continuity better than X-Men King Size Annual #4 did. Annual #4 had nice JR Jr. art, but it never really fit anywhere, no matter how you looked at it.
As an alternate Annual, the first issue of Elsewhen would nicely fill out that imaginary year of publishing.

There were 'Specials' at Marvel that usually were the thickness of an annual but were not named or numbered with the Annuals, but sometimes might also say Spring or Summer.

I haven't been very active here lately, and was just offering a brief, friendly greeting.
I assure everyone there was no sarcasm or shade intended.
