Whether we class the Phoenix as a new character or not, I'm still anticipating something we haven't seen before.
Even though something can be based on an existing concept, it can still be a new character. I think. Stan and Jack's Thor being the best example I can think of at the moment. Though, I suppose, it is a bit cheeky. If I create a comic with a King Arthur character running around modern day London, with his sword Excalibur in hand, and he can fly and has a giant robotic camel, and is fighting a battle against wasps growing in the Victorian sewers, it may be quite inventive, but I'd feel hard-pressed to say I have invented a new character called King Arthur.

JB had mentioned that originally when the Phoenix entity and Jean were separated that it would return as a villain. We all know that isn't what happened. I wasn't thinking of Hobgolblin, but that is a good example. I'm speculating that if we see Phoenix the villain in Elsewhen there will be enough in the story and perhaps even the visuals to call it something new. But I see where you are coming from, Nathan.

Loved the first issue. Just gonna let my LCS know to add it to my pull list. Will probably buy the collected editions as well.

Are we still bound against speculating about the unfolding story? I ask because, in not knowing if the story is complete, I had to resist the urge to speculate. It wasn't easy!

As a longtime John Byrne fan and a lapsed comic fan, I desperately hoped Marvel would publish this. I was never optimistic, but hoped it would grow into something bigger then a single title.
While I am disappointed this didn't happen, I am very grateful to John for sharing this with his fans. As an artist, the opportunity to read this in pencil is amazing.
I hope whatever enjoyment and reward you get from this continues for many issues!
